Description:
This exhibit of 124 beautiful watercolors from the Brooklyn Museum's collection of 19th-century New Testament illustrations by French artist James Tissot tells the story of Jesus’ life and ministry from before his birth through his glorious Resurrection. In the late 1800s, Tissot traveled to the Holy Land to study its landscape, architecture, costumes, and customs before painting a series of images detailing the life of Christ. Tissot painted his many figures in costumes he believed to be historically authentic, carrying out his New Testament series with considerable archaeological exactitude. We anticipate that those who come to visit this exhibition will be uplifted spiritually as they contemplate the life and divine mission of the Savior.
